What are Browsers
- Web browsers, as their name suggests are used for browsing through web pages on internet websites. Early browsers displayed web pages containing text and links to other web pages containing text and links to other web pages.
The web pages are stored as HTML files. The recently developed browsers like mosaic displays forms, along with buttons and pull down menus. Netscape browsers enable even to down load a image file much faster than the text file. This led to the development of including animated images and moving pictures in the web pages. Netscape navigator and Microsoft internet explorer have emerged as the top ranking web browsers.
Both these browsers offer set of features conforming to HTML, so that images and links can be handled. These browsers also allowed frames and plug ins. Frames are used to develop multiple, independently scrollable panes on websites. Plugging help in development of web embedded applications.
Netscape Navigator is available on all platforms and internet explorer is tailored for the windows environment.
